CRATING

It's all about thinking outside the box !

DGPA has been building crates for 31 years. Drawing on that vast experience, our specialised team can provide you with a custom crating solution tailored to your specific requirements. DGPA is ISPM 15 accredited which means our wood is heat treated and fumigated; you will see the unique stamp on all our crates (read more about ISPM 15 below). Every shipment is unique and the DGPA team custom builds every crate specifically for that individual shipment. We can crate your goods at either your premises, or ours, depending on the situation and your needs.

Plywood crates are built for air, road and sea freight. We highly recommend plywood crates for high-value cargo as we place a security seal and unique seal number onto each crate making them tamperproof. For fragile cargo packed in plywood crates, we have tilt and shock indicators which will indicate whether the crate has been dropped/bumped, tilted or mishandled. If required, we use packing ancillary materials which can, for instance, protect cargo against moisture to a certain extent, depending on storage conditions. Plywood crates are excellent all-rounders and will make transportation easy and hassle free.

When goods are transported by air, extra weight means extra cost. Lightweight plywood crates are specifically designed and built for the airfreight industry. Utilising different materials they are substantially lighter than normal plywood crates.

Sea freight crates are built on the same principle as plywood crates but can withstand the harsher conditions the cargo will be exposed to during the transportation process.

Slatted crates provide a solution for transport of more robust, bulky cargo such as steel pipes, roof sheets and machinery. They are cheaper than plywood crates but cannot be used for fragile cargo or cargo that can be picked or pilfered. Cargo can be covered/protected with corrugated board or shrink wrapping to provide protection from the elements.

Palletizing is usually used for the transportation of unconventionally shaped goods. DGPA builds customized pallets for shipments with specialised load-bearing requirements. Depending on the customer's needs palletised cargo can be secured with strapping and, as for slatted crates, protected by shrink wrapping and/or covered with corrugated board.

What is ISPM 15 certification

ISPM 15 is an international phytosanitary measure developed by the IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention) that aims to prevent the potential spread of plant diseases and infestations between continents. It involves all wooden materials of a thickness greater than 6mm used to ship products between countries. It includes wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc) requiring treatment with heat or fumigated with methyl bromide and marked, often branded, with a seal of compliance. DGPA can arrange fumigation and a certificate of compliance for your untreated timber products.
